Sonja Manojlović was born March 15, 1948 in Zagreb, Croatia. She earned her degree in philosophy and comparative literature from Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. Her poems were included in various anthologies and translated into many languages. She has received several awards for her poetry in Croatia, Greece – Larissa, India – Calcutta, Japan – Osaka, Russia – Tver etc. She has published 24 collections of poems (17 original and 7 books of selected poems, including two translated into Polish and Romanian). She also published one book of short prose.

Sonja Manojlović est née le 15 mars 1948 à Zagreb, en Croatie. Elle est diplômée en philosophie et littérature comparée de la faculté de philosophie de Zagreb. Ses poèmes ont été inclus dans diverses anthologies et traduits dans de nombreuses langues. Elle a reçu plusieurs prix pour sa poésie en Croatie, en Grèce – Larissa, en Inde – Calcutta, au Japon – Osaka, en Russie – Tver. Elle a publié 24 recueils de poèmes (17 originaux et 7 livres de poèmes choisis, dont deux traduits en polonais et en roumain). Elle a également publié un livre de prose courte.

Pa, što, ako nevješto živim
Ako bauljam
na hiljadu očiju razmrcvarena
Gotovo pobijene, do kasno razvrstavam sićane slavuje
Otvaram i otvaram u njima ekrane daljine
Što, ako hoću disati, jesti
gdje ima hranjive juhe od zraka i knjiga
za koje ću zasjesti
bradu naslonit na dlan
dok ruka ne usahne
i kapci ne pripotvrde
Pa, što, ako od vas uzmem samo knjige
– usta za naš poljubac
SO WHAT IF I LIVE UNSKILLFULLY
So what if I live unskillfully,
if I stagger
mutilated to a thousand eyes
Until late at night I classify tiny little nightingales, almost killed
I open and open the screens of distance within them
What if I want to breathe, to eat
where there is nourishing soup of air and books
at which I will sit
lean my chin on my palm
until my hand withers
and my eyelids confirm
So what if I take only the books from you
mouth for our kiss
Je vis sans habileté, et alors?
Je titube
déchirée en mille yeux
Jusqu’à tard je classe des rossignols menus, presque tués
Je n’arrête pas d’ouvrir en eux des écrans de la distance
Je veux respirer, manger, et alors?
Là où il y a de la soupe nourrissante à l’air et aux livres
près desquels je m’assoirai et resterai assise
le menton dans la paume
jusqu’à ce que mon bras sèche
et que mes paupières confirment
Je ne vous prendrai que des livres, et alors?
– la bouche pour notre baiser
¿Y qué si vivo sin destreza?
Si ando a tientas
destripada por miles de ojos
Clasifico pequeños ruiseñores medio muertos hasta tarde
Abro y abro en ellos en ellas pantallas de distancia
Y qué, si quiero respirar, comer
donde hay una sopa nutritiva de aire y libros
junto a los que me sentaré
con el mentón en la palma
hasta que se marchite mi mano
y mis párpados lo confirmen
Y qué, si lo único que os tomaré son libros
– la boca para nuestro beso
